Rights to vote, to love, to speak, to earn, to work and to live. It is the right for people to be their own "lords" and make their own choices not because of gender-based societal expectations or because they "belong" to someone else based on gender. When you read the above, just maybe you would understand why these petty arguments involving love, relationships, cooking and feminism are really just ab.surd.
I swear, it is abs*urd and downright stup!id for someone to take cheap shots at feminism because a feminist gave money to someone and the person took advantage of her love. This isn't even a case of lack of empathy, it is a case of sheer stup!idity. It is abs**urd that at this time and age, we are arguing over basic things like who does the cooking. Oh just as an aside, there's a story behind the "wifenotcook" hash tag, I will still write about that one.
Sometime last year, Freeze(an OAP at Coolfm) put up a post which Noble Igwe(a fashion designer) found a bit offensive. He said it was good to have a beautiful wife who couldn't cook like Noble Igwe's wife but that he would rather have both(a beautiful wife and a great cook). After they handled each other, some days later Noble Igwe released a new shirt design and on it was written "wife not cook".
He was defending his wife because trust Nigerians, their mouths don dey run already. Now back to the talk, the real essence of the whole wife not cook talk is that you are getting married to a wife, not a cook and definitely not a glorified housemaid. No one is saying she shouldn't cook. Hell, it's really crazy for someone to use feminism as an excuse for not learning life skills.
Aunty, you can simply say I do not like to cook. That is all. Do not drag feminism into it abeg. It only becomes an issue when people try to shame you not because you do not like to cook basically but because of your gender.
And when it comes to matters that concern my personal life I have developed the skill to politely tell people to "fuck off". I mean, if the person you are with isn't giving you hell over it, then maybe you should be like me and tell them to fu**ck off, they do not matter(that is why it is however very important for you to date and marry your kind).
Granted, cooking is an important life skill just like swimming and we "SHOULD" all learn it. It could save your life. But just a simple question to those who cannot swim, how many times have you been sha.med because you cannot swim? I mean, you can always outsource cooking to people. You can always sip garri if you do not have enough money to buy food or outsource at the moment.
You can always experiment and throw stuff together in the pot if you run out of options. But, if by some funny prank of the universe, you end up in a pool, or at sea, or some freak flood, you might not be able to outsource, most people will be too busy trying to save their own lives or you might be alone with no help within sight.
Last last, this food debate would not put food on your tables ni. When you are done debating everywhere, you would definitely find a way to feed yourself.
