Episode 7 of Igbo Traditions BURIAL RITES.

I saw a few posts talking about how the Igbos spend a lot of money burying their dead. It is not a meaningless and ostentatious display of affluence, it is in accordance with Igbo customs and traditions. Ideally, the burial ceremony of a full fledged Igbo adult is way more expensive than Igbo marriages. The amount of money, resources and time spent on one burial can handle 3 or 4 Imo weddings conveniently all things being equal. The Igbo burial rites are divided into two: Akwamozu (burial feast/ceremony) and Ili Ozu (burial proper). The belief behind the Akwamozu;  1. Igbos truly believe that any deceased adult of Igbo origin that is denied the gift of Igbo funeral rites never finds peace in the beyond, and will never be inducted into the world of the souls to enjoy spiritual rights there.  2. Igbos always confirms a deceased adult that is yet to welcome any funeral rites and will keep reincarnating every time or once in a month, dying as infant and will can enjoy earth life

Never Act Like You Enjoy $£× with your husband.

She that hath ears, let her listeneth to what the prophetess sayeth. 1. If you go to your fiancé's house and his mom gives you food with four pieces of meat, eat only one and remain the other three. It is a trap/test. Simple home training should teach you that. And if it's gizzard, reject it. 2. If you visit your prospective fiancé and meet a pile of dirty clothes in his room, and plates not washed from last year and you leave without washing the clothes/plates, you have failed the test of being a wife material. 3. If you visit your fiancé's family house during Christmas and everyone is watching TV in the sitting room, don't sit with them. Enter the kitchen and find work to do. It is a trap. 4. If your fiancé takes you shopping and asks you to pick whatever you want, don't fall for that trap. Take toothpaste and one toothbrush. Your teeth is all that matters. It is a test to know if you're a gold digger or a home management woman. Kill him with your fr

Typically Igbo Words Never End In R or H.

So I bumped into a post where someone maintained that Igbo is the tribe and Ibo is the language or something of that nature. A lot of people think so too. Now Ibo is the anglicised version of Igbo. The British could not enunciate double consonant words or sounds like GB, GW, GH, KP, KW, NW, NY. It should be noted that the aforementioned words are letters of the Igbo alphabet. Anyway because of their inability to pronounce such sounds, GB became B, KP became P, GW became G, and so on. This also affected a lot of Igbo spellings. So to them, Igbo became Ibo. Enugwu which literally means Top of the hill/mountain became Enugu. (Enu means top, ugwu means hill, Ugu is the fluted pumpkin vegetable) Okpara became Opara Chukwu became Chuku And so many other instances. Also the spelling of a lot of Igbo places were altered and anglicised too. Onisha became Onitsha Owere became Owerri Anambara became Anambra Nkwere became Nkwerre Oka became Awka Okunano became Awkananaw Okafo be

WE GO FOR THE BEST OR WE ROT OSIBANJO

If Baba is fit to continue to and probably contest in 2019, then I'm all for him. If he is not fit and will not contest, then let everybody come out and prove himself or herself to Nigerians. We want a nation builder and development. If it is this man, so be it. If it is somebody else, may God be with him/her. Importantly, we want one that will appeal to all sections of our country. But no one should come back to tell us that someone betray some stup!id arrangement. Whatever arrangement was made was not in our names or interests. We are tired of self serving arrangements that are not designed with the poor Nigerians and downtrodden in mind. Nobody send anyone to do deals on our behalf so they can perpetuate themselves and their children while the rest of us are in poverty. I didn't send anyone to represent me. When the idi0ts are doing recruitment for their children and girlfriends they don't remember the poor. When I enter plane I don't ask who is the pilot.

Dr Ismaila Farouk Attacked Acting President?

And suddenly one "Dr. Ismaila Farouk from Zamfara State" is the mouthpiece of the north. It seems he attacked the Acting President in a bid to discredit him, and show him as not fit for the office. I've not really read what he said but snippets of I read here. He may have gunned for the Acting President because he convinced himself that Baba will not contest for that office in 2019. Seeing how the public are warming up to the Acting President, he may have acted out his feelings. And I'm not surprised that this guy ranted as he was said to have. There are probably thousands like him in this country and the region he came from. This is Nigeria. Truth be told, we are a country of ethnic champions. What is funny, really funny, is the way some of us on this sphere have elevated 'him' and 'his' views to be representative of the entire region. As usual, the northerners are monolithic. A man no one has ever heard of or read now represent the northern

Give Us Biafra Or There Won't Be Elections In Our Land Nnamdi Kanu

In other words, either way, give or not there will be no elections in his land. For one, if you give him Biafra, there will be no Nigeria as it is, so no election. Two, if you don't give him Biafra, there will be no election. It is the classic, "my way or no way". But that is by the way. The real problem is that the young man is courting problem. When the government refused to release him in clear violation of court grant bail, many well meaning Nigerians criticised the government. When the government finally complied with latest release order on health grounds, it was premised on 3 conditions. Two of these conditions were to be met before bail and one after. Kanu met the before-bail conditions of a priest and senator standing in his favour. He was released, even as the others that were arrested along with him are still languishing in Kuje. The last condition was to not (be in and) address a gathering of more than 10 people. But few days after he released on ba

Episode6 of Igbo Traditions Exorbitant Bride Price

Most Igbo communities are known for charging exorbitant prices before one could marry their daughters. It is not a baseless stereotype like most jokes are wont to be, it is a fact. The responsibilities heaped on prospective husbands in the form of bride price and lists are astronomical. Factors that affect how outrageous a lady's bride price will be: 1. In some places, the bride price itself ranges from 40 to 100 thousand and above depending on how accomplished the lady in question is. The bride price for an O' level holder is different from that from that of a university graduate and that of a graduate is different from that of doctorate holder. 2. Also age is factored in. The older lady and the cheaper price. A prospective husband of a woman in her late 30s or early 40s does not necessarily have to fulfil all the requirements. Some 'discount' is accorded to the inlaws and the length of time required for iju ase and iku aka reduced. 3. Also her 'purity

Our Current Monetary System, Paper Currency, Central Banks, and Dept

In this our modern monetary system, our use of paper money issued by centralized banks is a tiny, teency weency blip. So small is that blip, in fact, that most of the world has only been issuing money this way for less than 100 years. This isn’t to say that debt is anything new – we’ve always had that, from the world’s first “I’ll pay you back” verbal promise, there has been debt, although the ways in which we go into debt now have become very widespread and debt is no longer considered such a horrible thing, unless there’s too much of it. However, the issuance of paper currency that is backed by nothing except people’s faith in it and how much of it is in circulation is incredibly new, because up until 1972 most of it was backed by gold. During this time, there were so many different currencies floating around and it was confusing – some gold, some silver, some other base metals. Longdistance trade and tax payment was complicated to say the least. Medici was a money exchanger in
