Some Traditions That Still Uphold Till Today, Osu/Ohu/Ume Caste system Episode1

Since I'm Igbo, I'll stick to Igbo traditions. Hopefully they'll be interactive, interesting and educative and not something that would brew unnecessary bile.

These are the major lower caste groups in Ndi-Igboland. In most places they mean the same thing; #Outcast, Pariah. But from where I come from they have very distinct meanings.

1. @Osu: This is a group of people sacrificed to the gods in Igbo community. They always assist the high priest of the Igbo #traditional religion to serve the deities or the Ndi-Igbo gods in their #shrine.

Making of #Osus:
A. When clans fight, the winning community takes some captives from the losing clan. Now from their captives, they sacrifice the strongest and healthiest humans to the gods as special slaves. Apart from being strong and healthy, they also have to be v!rg*ins. They are kept to serve the deity and as such cannot marry or have an affair with the freeborn (nwadiala).

B. In some special circumstances, those ones who hold the traditional beliefs of the Ndi*Igbos (the elders), could truly transform #Diala who committed the atrocities against the **Igbo land, into an @Osu. This process involves so many things like intricate rituals (offering of libations and sacrificing animals to the earth goddess).

C. Some communities or people who were at risk of extermination either because they were weak or committed a crime would run to the shrine and ask the gods for succour. They automatically become Osus and no matter the crime, become untouchable.

D. A Diala could sacrifice his headstrong child or his personal slave to the gods to attract favour. Such person and his descendants automatically becomes Osu.

E. Getting married to, interacting with or killing an Osu automatically makes a Diala an Osu.
The ancestors of the present-day Osu people inherited their dehumanizing social status through any of these.
Recently, one could late acquire the #Osu status through some inheritance and the marriage.

2. #Ohu: This group of people are slaves too but CONTINUE READING HERE

There are reasons why suicide happens.

Now I won't be writing from just the "something happened to you, you feel sad and bam, let's die" angle. I am including the mental health condition part. So let's start from establishing the fact that I am bipolar. Yes, bipolar mental disorder. Clinically diagnosed. Taking drugs and undergoing therapy. This declaration is important because I see people coming out to say, stop claiming depression and mental health issues so you can sound knowledgeable about an issue. So this one is not a claim, I can send you a copy of my doctor's report. I carry it around with my documents. Ehen, now that that one is clear. Let's talk. You see all of you talking about suicide being selfish don't know what you are saying. You think we wake up and just want to k!ill ourselves, because we don't want to be around you people and bear the pain alone. Because our existence somehow makes your life better. Because you even care about what we are going through? One of ...

Why Average Nigerian Man Wants to Settle With a Woman They Can Control

Whenever I write that the average Nigerian man wants to settle with a woman that they can control, I get accused of generalization. But that is a fact that stares us in the face. A truth many of us would rather no one voices. I have lived almost 30 years on earth, and I have had reasons to interact with men, a vast majority of whom are Nigerians. I understand their thought processes, and I understand the damage that has been done to them during the processes of their upbringing. I woke up this morning to another shocker. Well, not so shocked. A man with the name Chikezie Ifechukwu advocating and urging men into what seemed to me like ped. Asking them to go for underaged women, all to what end? They are naive and easier to control. I still can't get my head around the compulsive urge that makes any sane person crave to control another human being. I simply do not get it. The past generations raised generations with serious malfunction. A generation where many men think thei...
