So the old, "best graduating student gets a paltry sum of money while the winner of big brother Nigeria gets 25million naira" talk has resurfaced again and someone even said the government should not talk about fi!ghting corru*ption when things like this are happening.
First, Big brother is a brand, independent of government funding, so wetin concern them now?
Second, I really don't get this continuous attempt to give people incentive to study. Like I don't understand it one bit. I mean, if you even drew comparison between academic contests and big brother Nigeria, I might even start to understand but really?
Best graduating student? People should now be paid on top of the education that they are getting, or they should be paid for their chewing and pouring ability, after all na still talent na? Shebi University is just a reality show that goes on for years na?
I know we are trying to encourage education and all that, which in my opinion some of you aren't getting from university self. Na to just chew and pour, sabi how to speak big grammar, sabi all the technical terms. But you still dey like empty komkom, -1000 functioning brain capacity.
But there is such a thing as edutainment, there is also such a thing as pure entertainment, where the general utilitarian value is to provide fun and entertainment to people. If you have sense, you'd see how big brother fits into these slots.
Also, if you are smart, you'd realize that as long as brands are not violating any ethics and they are not causing harm to anyone, they have every right to organize whatever programs they want to organize.
You should also know that there are brands and individuals who organize programs with the soul aim of testing intellect. Most of you whining would not even get slots to participate in these programs because it is not a chew and pour something.
You won't get there and they'd now start asking you all those "what is this" questions. They'd knack you with questions that require critical thinking. In fact let me bring it home with an example, Tony Obinna Entrepreneurship Program offers opportunities for you to get funding and mentorship for your ideas.
And no, these ideas are not limited to fashion designing and those things we term as "handicrafts". There are opportunities for diverse ideas even mainstream education ideas. How many of you whining applied? And don't even claim it wasn't advertised.
I mean, it got enough social media advertisement, I dare say a lot more than the advertisement for auditions for big brother Nigeria. This one you didn't even have to travel to audition, you only had to apply online and pitch your ideas.
But no na, some Nigerians cannot see those ones o. They're busy waiting to express their self righteousness and funny sense of morality in other issues.
Ehen, last last, you should know that you do not judge people based on your morality. Keep your morality to yourself.
