I learnt a very big lesson from my mother, she inspires me with the words of God which say "I can do all things through Christ that strengthen me.(Phil 4:13):" My mother is the sweetest gift of God to me, she made various sacrifices raising me, She was too selfless, humble and quite enterprising. I grew up having many people living with us on her bill, but she never complained about once. She gets up before daylight to prepare food for the family.
She is hardworking, strong and industrious, she is generous to the poor and needy she always girds herself with strength for her God-given task. When I was young, I lost my left hand but she stood beside me as a mother to take care of me always. Because of me, she wakes up as early as 5 am to collect bread at a bakery in order to sell it, and pay my school fees.
Every morning on her way coming from the bakery, she buys me a sachet of tea from aboki to prepare my hot tea before going to school that day. She makes me feel happy and healthy. She reminds me of the words of God daily that there is time for everything in this life and no matter the challenge I may encounter, I should always give thanks to God because His thoughts towards us are good not of evil and she back it up with Bible reference to make me understand better. (1 Thess 5:18, Eccel 3, Jer 29:11).
Her resilience makes me wonder if men are truly the stronger spe€cie. Mum always looks well to know how things go in the family and the bread of idleness and goss!ip she will not eat. Strength and dignity is her clothing, with a sense of humility. Until when I should stop loving her shall I close my eyes in death.
One day my mum told me a story of when she was younger, her friend came over to her house and my mum brought out her lunch, rice with no fish or meat and they ate together. My mum saw her friend back to her own house and her friend went inside her mum's kitchen dip hand in her mum's pot of soup and fetch the fresh fish her mum made. She fetches the first plate of fish, and my mum asked her "is this your lunch?" and she said yes.
She went the second time and my mum asked the same question and she replied yes. My mum said she was worried at the point but as a child, she has carried away with the excitement of eating plenty fishes, and like that, grandmother they both finished the fishes. When the mother came back from the market, she met her pot of soup empty. She asked her daughter "who ate all the fish in my soup"? And she said it was my friend i.e my Mum that asked her to go and bring it.
The mother went to report my grandmother and her grandmother took my mum, pour water on her, rub powder on all her body, tie leaves on her waist and called other children to sing and escort her round the village singing "fish thi!ef". Later that night her grandmother called her and say to her "my child I do not hate you but you have to learn how to be contented with whatever your mother gives to you and never take anything that does not belong to you.
My lesson: while growing up, I never for once saw my mum borrow clothes, shoes, earrings necklace or anything at all from her friends for any occasion. She has always being contented with what she has, she has never brought sha@me and dis*grace to my father and to the children. Again, after gaining admission into a higher institution, I remember those scriptures she quote, which guild me through my studies. Now, To the Glory of God as a grow up person working in one of the company in Lagos. I say thank you Mom and thanks to Milo Nigeria for this great opportunity to express my feelings. God bless you all.
